On what reasons do you usually fight with your colleague? Who will sit near the coffee machine? Temperature set in the AC? But here at Swipe, we fight over the number of steps walked in a month!
So, it all began when our fitness-freak boss bought GOQII Fitness Band. “Begin the journey towards an active and healthier life” it said, and I instantly felt betrayed. Until now, I was under the impression that activity meant walking to the nearest McDonalds store and ordering a Burger combo! I mean, last week I took the stairs instead of the lift to go to 4th floor and felt pretty good about myself! As I kept thinking, as my entire glutton life was flashing before my eyes; my colleagues were busy, creating a “office group” in the app. ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ the name said. (They actually wanted to name the group “Bhaag Chandana Bhaag” to motivate me!)
One with highest number of steps would get a prize and one with lowest number should bear a penalty. And the fight began. People started walking to their homes from office, taking steps everywhere and even sometimes roamed around in the conference room to increase the step count. Because we believe in competition, no matter what! 😉 The Guru of the office, Akash even walked all the way home during lunch hours to be on the top of the list.
For some reason, every snack box in the office ends up on my desk! And to add to my agony, we keep having Garam Jalebis, EVERYDAY!
Usual work evenings at office:
“I got my salary!”
“It’s tea time!”
“But it’s TEA time, not Jalebi time,”
“There is nothing interesting happening today..”
—- One month later—–
I write this blog, as one with the lowest steps recorded for the month of June. Akash won the game with a whooping 3,57,381 steps. I remain happy at 67,109. A little insulting fact is that, Shiva, who recently hurt herself and had trouble moving for 3 days is 1000 steps ahead of me.
It’s the first of the month again, and the game is back on!
